Danone is investing in a seaweed-growing startup, pushing it forward as a healthy food manufacturer

The corporate venture arm of Danone, Danone Manifesto Ventures, led the $7 million fundraising round raised by symbrosia, the developer of a seaweed feed additive that reduces livestock methane emissions by more than 80%. In addition to previous investors Pacific6 and HATCH, new investors namely Presidio Ventures, Kamehameha Schools and Mana Up, and individuals including farmers and seaweed enthusiasts have participated in the funding round. Symbrosia’s funding will support plans to expand production, building a larger facility in Hawaii. The company previously completed a trial test confirming methane reduction, establishing proof for the concept.
