McCormick & Company has collaborated with Berry Global to make their new McCormick Assorted and Neon Food Colour bottles, much more recyclable and reusable from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, specifically recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET). This arrangement was in alignment with both the companies’ packaging goals for 2025. The decision would enable McCormick to reduce CO2 emissions by leveraging Berry’s supplies. LCA estimates a reduction of 86.8 metric tons/ 95.7 tons of CO2 emissions. This equals to a 59% reduction. McCormick’s 2021 Performance Report stated the importance of performance in environment-friendly packaging in accordance with UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2025. Berry also aims to acquire 600 million pounds of recycled plastic by the year 2025.
