Mondelēz International has launched the second phase of its Cocoa Life programme, which will be funded with an extra $600 million until 2030. The major goal of the initiative is to increase cocoa volume at scale and help about 300,000 farmers by 2030. Since its commencement in 2012, the initiative has received a total investment of $1 billion. Mondelēz expects that this investment will “catalyse ground-breaking sector collaboration” to solve environmental and social concerns and enhance the lives of farmers and their communities. After a decade, the initiative has achieved critical size, with over 200,000 farmers on board and $400 million committed by the end of 2022. So far, the programme has resulted in an increase in farmers’ revenue (15% in Ghana and 33% in Cote d’Ivoire); high cocoa yields, with double-digit percentage increases in farmers’ earning a living income; 61% of Cocoa Life communities in West Africa covered with Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation Systems; and other benefits.
