Sprite has decided to forgo its green bottles for white plastic ones from August to reduce waste. The company’s current packaging has green polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which prevents a bottle from being recycled into a new one. The transition is bound to improve the quality of recycled material and increase the availability of food-grade rPET. A new logo and packaging design is set to be used with its green label. Coca-Cola has similar plans for its beverages including Fresca, Seagram’s, and Mello Yello in the upcoming months. It is also planned to switch Dasani bottles to 100% plastic ones in US and Canada this summer. It is likely to appease Dasani fans whose sustainability expectations are quite high.
